Let it Snow!

Following yesterday’s influx of snow in the Northeastern U.S. our thoughts have turned to the coming ski season. Here we looked at our Lift Pass sales (spend) and Park Attendance (foot traffic) data for Vail Resorts (MTN).

Lift pass sales have seen their own peaks and valleys with April’s late season drop at the outbreak of COVID, a healthy climb in August, and then another sharp drop coinciding with a resurgence in cases—finally ending with a steep ascent in November. Notably, the number of customers shot up sharply in November, the last chance to purchase Epic passes for the season.

While lift pass sales are a leading indicator, actual park attendance will be most interesting to follow as resorts negotiate safe social distancing in the season highs of December through March.
