Restaurant Delivery Dominates Super Bowl Spending

Spending across major menu categories grew 14% YoY in 2021 during the Super Bowl, accelerating from 6% YoY Growth in 2020. Dollars spent through Restaurant Delivery companies grew 168% YoY, while dollars spent directly at Burger and Pizza restaurants each increased 5% YoY. Chicken was the fastest growing major category, up 12% YoY.

Apart from triple digit growth for delivery companies like DoorDash, UberEats, and Grubhub/Seamless, restaurants Papa John’s, Sonic, and Whataburger all outperformed in their menu categories in 2021. Chick-fil-A was the largest non-Restaurant Delivery company by sales during Super Bowl game day in 2021.
